A/C IN KCI

I don't understand how KCI can afford to spend so much money on our horticulture and take care of goats and chickens but not have enough money to get air conditioning in the school. The fact that we only have air conditioning in the library makes no sense at all. Why couldn't the school just put it in the cafe where the majority of the people go to? Also if the school were to be cooler, people wouldn't complain about the heat, which would make them more focused on school work. Instead of wasting money on the thousands of posters we make for everything and on useless stuff, we should use that money to make the school a better environment to be in. Having air conditiong in the school would make things 100 times better and help students focus on work. I personally don't see why we can't get air conditioning.

Amy Beamer

I quite enjoyed Amy's visit. I think her job is interesting and I wouldn't mind doing it. I'm not sure I fully understood what her job is, but I do know that she helps out a lot and works with people in different situations. I wouldn't want this as my career but I definitely enjoyed the experience of learning about it. I love to help people but having to do so many interviews and doing all that she does would get boring for me.

Sidney McLean

I think that Sidney's visit personally didn't interest me much. I feel like she didn't have a lot to say and she was way too serious. She didn't make the job seem interesting. I felt bored at times, but maybe that's because I'm not that interested in the career. I think to become a lawyer is way too much work and I wouldn't be able to do that. But if you have the patience and passion then that job would be great for you. But in the end I'm glad she came because that taught me more and made me realise what I'd rather be interested in.

Film: Uganda

The film we watched in class about Uganda's situation that happened about a decade ago was very heart felt and touching. I don't pretend to know how exactly the citizens felt but considering the fact that I have seen and heard alot about war situations helps me better understand their situation. I'm from Afghanistan, and there has been war in my country for over 30 years and it is very tragic. Although I've never witnessed something with my own eyes, I do know a lot about the war because of the stories and facts from my parents and relatives that have actually witnessed it themselves. The movie was very sad and did make me cry a lot. It's sad to see that these things actually happen in our world but we are living some where with freedom and peace and don't realize the situations others go through. We, that live in Canada and other developed countries, are very fortunate and I think we shouldn't take that for granted. We need to all help each other, because after all, we are all a part of one world.

Summer Olympics 2020: Dubai

It has always been a dream of mine to visit Dubai some time in my life. Dubai is currently having financial difficulties but it is said that they want to host the 2020 summer Olympics in Dubai. I think that if Dubai were to host the Olympics, it would be the most fabulous event ever. Considering the fact of Dubai's amazing arcitecture, I beleive that they would create the most astonishing and memorable Olympics event in history. It would be a dream come true to even just visit Dubai in my lifetime but to have Olympics going on as well is just an extra bonus. I think I will start to save money for the next 8 years, if possible, to make my dream come true.

Ann Liebau

The visit of the mid wives was very interesting because I had no idea of all the types of things they do and how they're always on call. I actually thought about becoming a wide wife but I could never because you need to be brave and always on call. I would hate to be on call because that would interfere with my own life. But I do think it is a great career.

Melissa Durrell

Melissa Durell was my other favorite guest speaker. At first I thought the two careers would be boring and hard. But I realized how interesting they actually are. I really liked how she was so energetic and didn't bore me. She was very comfortable and really got me engaged into her presentation. I personally wouldn't have the guts to be in those to career fields but I do find it very amusing. Her presentation taught me many things about parliament and what types of obstacles different jobs have. I very much enjoyed her visit.

Sarah Leishman

When Sarah Leishman talked about how it's like to be a social worker, it really got me interested in becoming one. But soon I realised that I'm not that patient to become one. Although I really enjoyed listening to her and learnt about the career, I don't think I would become one. I learnt about what kind of people they help and council with. I never knew all the different types of reasons you could go to a councillor with. I really liked how she played a game with us and included us in her discussion. I think the game was beneficail for all of us and really fun. I also liked how calm she was because it showed how patient and the type of atittude you need to become a councillor. All in all, I really enjoyed her visit.

Scott Wahl

Scott Wahl was one of my favorite guest speaker that came. I liked his visit mainly because his job at RIM is interesting and since I'm a customer of Blackberry, I had lots to ask. I asked pretty hard questions and not all of them were answered the way I wanted it to be. But I did learn a lot about the career and how it's like to work at a big world wide company. Although I'm not really interested in the career field, I enjoyed the talk because it was interesting to know how big companies like RIM work and how they deal with situations. I learned a lot about how businesses work and how they keep a well spot in the market. I already knew a lot about RIM but I had no idea how blackberry's are made and how many they actually sell. His talk was very informative but in the end I really liked it.

FFP Program

I think that the FFP program has its ups and downs. I like how we have class discussions on topics and debate on things. It has helped me gain confidence and to speak for myself. I like how we have a choice on what to do each day and how we mix it up from time to time. I especially enjoy the guest speakers that come in because it teaches me a lot and inspires me. One thing I don't like about the course is how we have to do so much work. We have blogging, essays, projects, civic mirror, book club and all these things all at once and it is hard to keep up with it. If you don't do one thing right away, more work piles on top of it, which makes you fall behind. It is hard to keep up with the work load but I try my best to do things to the best of my ability. I really love the fact that we have no exam. I think that's fair because we do more work than regular classes, so by not having an exam, that makes it easier and fair. I enjoy the class most of the time. I think we should continue this program. One thing I think would be better next year is if you don't include the civic mirror game because no one takes it serious and it's very confusing and unfair to some people. But in the end I enjoy being in this class.

My Vote

If I could vote, I would be voting for the Liberal Party.  The Liberal Party helps university students by providing them with $1,000 every year.  This will be beneficial to me in the near future.  The Liberals consider all aspects when making laws and so I believe they're very fair and a great choice.  Also by voting for the Liberals, more money will be given to child care plans.  This is beneficial for families and single moms.  More people will get money and can survive with the support.  They also help support forces veterans to get more education.  An education is helpful in life and the Liberals will help provide this for everyone.  Finally, I believe the Liberals are best because they cut taxes, which helps us save money.  My vote would go for the Liberals.

Twitter Problems

I feel like there are some people who like to share everything about their life on twitter to the whole world.  It's just so annoying to read some of the most pointless tweets.  I don't see why twitter is such a big deal to people.  I know it can be fun and addicting but when people take it so serious, it just doesn't make sense.  Also there is the occasional time where "twitter beef" starts.  Where a tweet is made about someone or something that happened and people start to fight over it on twitter, forgetting the whole idea that it's on a social network where everyone can see it as well.  People feel the need to get involved in every bodies business and cause more problems.  Some people can be so awfully rude and disrespectful on twitter.  It is all so pathetic and at the same time so pointless and unnecessary.  I sometimes wonder if people ever think before tweeting such harsh content.  Sure people can get mad and they can tweet about it, but to cause even more problems and be rude about it too, it doesn't make things better and it is a total waste of time.  The number one thing I hate about twitter is when people expose information of others.  It's called a secret or something that you don't want to be on the internet and to be forgotten about, but no. People don't realise what they say until afterwards when the harm has already been done.  But on the up side there are the good aspects of twitter which makes it an enjoyable activity.

Pet Peeves

My biggest pet peeves:
1. Saying "swag" and "yolo".
2. When nails o chalk scratch the blackboard.
3. Guys wearing the same snap backs 24/7.
4. When people dress all in one exact color.
5. Clicking of pens.
6. People chewing loudly.
7. Peoples music so loud in their headphone in MSIP.
8. People talking to themselves in MSIP and it's all quiet and I'm trying to do work.
9. Slow reading.
10. Slow typing.
11. Taking forever to make a decission.
12. When people take my food/drinks without asking.
13. When people take something as they're asking.

KONY 2012

My opinion on the Joseph Kony issue is that Kony has done a lot of harm and unacceptable things but it has taken people way too long to realise it.  Kony has been kidnapping children and placing them in the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) for years now.  But no one had found about this until this year.  Kony is considered the number one criminal wanted but why did it take people these many years to realise it.  I believe although it is gone so far and it is a little too late now, we should still take this into consideration and put a stop to it.  Invisible Children Inc has created a film documentary called Kony 2012 and has shown the story of Kony and what he has done to the children of Uganda.  Kony is still continuing his goal and is spreading to different parts of Africa and no one has yet to find him.  The United States have sent army troops to help search for Kony but it has made no progress so far.  I think that the film was a great way to inform people about this issue.
Why couldn't we put a stop to this before so much damage happened.  To me it's funny how people can take high quality pictures on Joseph Kony but have yet to find him.  It doesn't all add for me in a way.  I feel like there is information hidden from people.
Also I believe the event of covering the streets on April 20th is a good idea.  But the fact of getting those posters and kit costing so much money, that not as much people will participate in the event. It's better to just make our own posters and help out.  But all in all it's best to do something than nothing.

Todays Meet

I think the chat we had with the other schools on the site about the TED talk was a major fail and a bad idea afterwards. No one really talked about the video. Arguments started between the schools, mean things were said and everyone was off topic. Although it was fun and amusing, some people took it over board. I don't think we should do it again in that way. Students forgot that teachers were actually on it too. Which leaded to swearing and harsh judgement of others. Some students put fake names and said whatever they felt like. So I think it was just a waste of time in a way.

Learning French

I think learning french is a good thing because it helps you in the future and with your career. According to employers, if you speak french or more than one language you have a greater chance in getting a job.

I believe we should all learn french in grade 9 but from then on it should be our own choice whether to continue or not. Learning french is beneficial but it should be our own choice. I think the way we run our school progam at the moment is the way it should be kept. Students can also choose whether to continue french or take on another language the school provides. It's just a matter of opinion.

Peter Braid Visit

The session with Peter Braid was very informative and taught us a lot about the parliament. But I think it was boring and he didn't say any interesting things about the career. Also when students asked him questions, he would minipulate their words and answer a totally different question. He somewhat changed the whole topic around without people noticing. It was interesting to learn about the parliament and about politics and how they deal with things but I think it didn't really tell us details. I thought the talk might have inspired me or others to become a part of parliament. But to me personally it didn't incourage me or interest me in the career.  But in the end, I think it was a great experience to know about the parliament and about the career field.

Guest speaker: author

I think having guests speakers coming in is a great idea. Our class is very quite and we tend to just go along with whatever and we don't really participate in discussions. I think the guest speaker felt nervous and there was awkward silences because no one would ask a question. Although we already had questions prepared, we didn't ask all of them because I think the guest felt nervous and under pressure and I didn't want to make her feel even more nervous. But I believe that we learned a lot about the career from a guest coming to speak about it. It gave us more knowledge and it was very interesting. I would like it if we had more guest speakers come in.

Good vs. Evil

In my opinion, I believe people are essentailly good. We all do good deeds, help each other and want best for everyone. People are very giving and kind. We all have a heart and help as much as possible for charities and donate to many causes. If we all do good things, our society can change for the better. Lots of people take action to change the world one step at a time.

Celebrity: Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is honestly a great role model to many young girls. The past 10 years she has been dealing with a lot of problems such as eating disorders, bullying, depression, diagnosed as bipolar and more. Demi's childhood was very tough because she would be bullied constantly by other kids and she never knew why. But when she finally asked them why, they all said because she is fat.  Demi quoted, "I developed an eating disorder, and that's kind of what I've been dealing with ever since. I was compulsively overeating when I was eight years old. So, I guess, for the past 10 years I've had a really unhealthy relationship with food." Since Demi has become famous, she has been hiding all this from everyone. She would do concerts on an empty stomach, and lose her voice. When one day she got so anger with herself that she took it out on someone that really meant a lot to her, a backup dancer, by punching her in the face. Demi would spend days depressed and all alone from all the bullying that had affected her. All this bullying led her into cutting herself daily. She thought that by cutting herself, it was a way of getting her anger out and by matching her inside with her outside. But there came a time when she was seriously hurt, so she decided to quit her job on her hit TV show "Sonny with a chance", to enter into rehab. In her interview, Demi says "The real reason why I'm sitting down with you is to open up the eyes of so many young girls, that it doesn't have to be this way." She has truly affected and changed the lives of many with her inspiration. Today she is fully recovered and is back on track. She has still given up her TV show to pursue her music career. Demi is a magnificent role model.

Airbrushing and Body Image

Yes, of course teens are affected by the media. But if you really think about it, the media is mostly false. They make you think that you need to be "perfect" for people to like you. What happened to people judging you by your personality? Are looks really more important than what kind of person you are? That is so wrong. People have changed because society has changed. Now the first thing people judge you by is your appearance. They judge others before knowing who they really are. The media is all fake, they edit pictures of celebrities and make them look fabulous and perfect. But in reality, they look nothing like what the media makes them look like. Why is it that the media edits beautiful looking people into looking fake and no flaws. I never get that. It's so wrong, that every ones minds are manipulated to thinking they need to be like those celebrities. The media has a big impact on teens because whatever happens in the media and people go by, others have to do it as well because they believe that's what's right. But honestly, original is worth more than a copy. So why copy others and think you should follow the media. No person on earth looks like the edited pictures. Be yourself and don't let the harsh media affect you in a negative way. Beauty is what's inside.

Teenagers Asking Viewers

"What do you believe people think about you?". High school students worry about self image more than anything else because the judgement of others makes people feel good about themselves. People should not worry about their self-image throughout high school because the impression of beauty they receive from the media is false in a matter of ways, can result to eating disorders and peer pressure, as well as giving the false impression of you to people. Now a days the media has a big effect on teenagers that are especially in high school. Students worry about everything from clothes, hair, and facial beauty to popularity and so on. Self image is the main cause of a persons worry. Being accepted is what everyone wants, but to do it in a way of changing who you really are is the wrong impression. The media makes students think that size 0-2 is what is right, which makes teenagers think twice of everything they do. Aside from the perfect size and weight, individuals also take notice in judgement and criticism from their close friends or peers too seriously. Being accepted is a big issue, and we all want it. But is it really that important. Teens also result to suicide because of how harsh some judgements are. It is known that every 45 seconds a suicide is committed. That's a really high rate. I believe that everyone is original, there is no need to change who you are. Why should you ask people online if you're pretty or ugly. That's showing your lack of confidence and people aren't always nice. You're perfect just the way you are, who cares what people say. People judge others because they feel insecure about themselves, so they like to make others feel bad too. But none of that is right, so it all needs to stop. Be who you are, don't change for anyone because people should accept you for you, not for something you aren't.

My Book Choice

The first book I choose to read was "Thirteen Reasons Why". I choose this book because by reading the summary, i got darn into it, and this book is the kind of thing that really interest me. The book shows what a girl goes through in her life and what the result to her issues turn out to be. I personally don't read books, but when i find out about an interesting book like this one, I get really interested to read it. I'm looking forward to reading this, and hope I like it.

Head Covering

In my opinion, head covering is a religious aspect of someone life and people should have the right to wear it in public and wherever they want because it's their religion. The religion of being Muslim, is actually also my religion, so I know the true facts about it. Women are required to wear a head cover (hijab) and certain clothing everywhere, with the exception of their own home. In common sense, it is needed to know how a person looks like for identification reasons. But in the Muslim religion women are to not reveal themselves, except in the case of health care. It makes sense to know what a person actually looks like for identification and security reasons, but it's hard for Muslims to accept it because it is considered a sin. This issue could be fought fairly in both ways but the idea of showing your face or any body part is not allowed in this religion. Although everyone should show their face for identification purposes.
