Celebrity: Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato is honestly a great role model to many young girls. The past 10 years she has been dealing with a lot of problems such as eating disorders, bullying, depression, diagnosed as bipolar and more. Demi's childhood was very tough because she would be bullied constantly by other kids and she never knew why. But when she finally asked them why, they all said because she is fat. Demi quoted, "I developed an eating disorder, and that's kind of what I've been dealing with ever since. I was compulsively overeating when I was eight years old. So, I guess, for the past 10 years I've had a really unhealthy relationship with food." Since Demi has become famous, she has been hiding all this from everyone. She would do concerts on an empty stomach, and lose her voice. When one day she got so anger with herself that she took it out on someone that really meant a lot to her, a backup dancer, by punching her in the face. Demi would spend days depressed and all alone from all the bullying that had affected her. All this bullying led her into cutting herself daily. She thought that by cutting herself, it was a way of getting her anger out and by matching her inside with her outside. But there came a time when she was seriously hurt, so she decided to quit her job on her hit TV show "Sonny with a chance", to enter into rehab. In her interview, Demi says "The real reason why I'm sitting down with you is to open up the eyes of so many young girls, that it doesn't have to be this way." She has truly affected and changed the lives of many with her inspiration. Today she is fully recovered and is back on track. She has still given up her TV show to pursue her music career. Demi is a magnificent role model.
Airbrushing and Body Image
Yes, of course teens are affected by the media. But if you really think about it, the media is mostly false. They make you think that you need to be "perfect" for people to like you. What happened to people judging you by your personality? Are looks really more important than what kind of person you are? That is so wrong. People have changed because society has changed. Now the first thing people judge you by is your appearance. They judge others before knowing who they really are. The media is all fake, they edit pictures of celebrities and make them look fabulous and perfect. But in reality, they look nothing like what the media makes them look like. Why is it that the media edits beautiful looking people into looking fake and no flaws. I never get that. It's so wrong, that every ones minds are manipulated to thinking they need to be like those celebrities. The media has a big impact on teens because whatever happens in the media and people go by, others have to do it as well because they believe that's what's right. But honestly, original is worth more than a copy. So why copy others and think you should follow the media. No person on earth looks like the edited pictures. Be yourself and don't let the harsh media affect you in a negative way. Beauty is what's inside.
Teenagers Asking Viewers
"What do you believe people think about you?". High school students worry about self image more than anything else because the judgement of others makes people feel good about themselves. People should not worry about their self-image throughout high school because the impression of beauty they receive from the media is false in a matter of ways, can result to eating disorders and peer pressure, as well as giving the false impression of you to people. Now a days the media has a big effect on teenagers that are especially in high school. Students worry about everything from clothes, hair, and facial beauty to popularity and so on. Self image is the main cause of a persons worry. Being accepted is what everyone wants, but to do it in a way of changing who you really are is the wrong impression. The media makes students think that size 0-2 is what is right, which makes teenagers think twice of everything they do. Aside from the perfect size and weight, individuals also take notice in judgement and criticism from their close friends or peers too seriously. Being accepted is a big issue, and we all want it. But is it really that important. Teens also result to suicide because of how harsh some judgements are. It is known that every 45 seconds a suicide is committed. That's a really high rate. I believe that everyone is original, there is no need to change who you are. Why should you ask people online if you're pretty or ugly. That's showing your lack of confidence and people aren't always nice. You're perfect just the way you are, who cares what people say. People judge others because they feel insecure about themselves, so they like to make others feel bad too. But none of that is right, so it all needs to stop. Be who you are, don't change for anyone because people should accept you for you, not for something you aren't.
